He started selling his souvenir boxes on a Saturday evening and by Sunday morning he had sold out his entire supply to departing vacationers. In another taffy legend, Enoch James migrated from the Midwest to Atlantic City to find his fortune in taffy. Atlantic City directories show no listing of any store selling "Salt Water Taffy" until 1889.
